Active Coaching UK is currently involved in a number of key and long term projects with the help of its partners.

Active Adventure UK

Coming Soon

In addition to the services already on offer from Active Coaching UK, Active Adventure UK, will offer more challenging activities in and around the local area and beyond, the first activity will be a cycling scheme aimed at giving young teenagers the tools to explore thier local surroundings.

KACAC Ladies

Many of the Ladies from the group will be competing in the Keighley BigK 10K on 14th March 2010 (Mothers Day) to enter www.bigk10k.org.uk

For the past few months I have been working with a group of ladies who want to get fit and have taken up running at KACAC.  The majority ofthese ladies began unable to run much more than 200m without stopping.  Over the sessions that we run most of these ladies are now running over 3 miles on the local roads within the session and many are also capable of much more.  Along with the running the ladies also take part in basic circuit training and other fitness activities. This group has now grown to over 30 ladies and has taken on the help of some of the ladies team from the club to help out at the sessions.

During the winter the ladies will be following a 5 week rolling programme aimed at improving thier overall performance.  The assessment results are available here

Marley MTB Races

Tuesday 30th June saw the finale of this Race series hosted by Marley ACC in Keighley, the races were arranged in partnership with Bradford Council, British Cycling, Keighley "Just Ride" CyKle Club and Oakbank Sports College.  The aim of the series was to provide entry level cycling competition for students in the Aire Valley.  After a slow start the races picked up with over 30 riders taking part.  Results of the series can be found at www.kjrcc.co.uk

It is hoped that the races will be repeated in 2010, but with a different format, which will introduce the wide variety of cycling disciplines to the riders including Time Trials and Speedway

Multi Skills Clubs

Through funding that has been made available from Youth Sport Trust and West Yorkshire Sport, Active Coaching will be running over the next 3 years a series of Multi Skills Clubs and Sports Academies within the Oakbank Sports College Partnership.  The aim of the clubs is to help improve the generic sports skills of lower Key Stage 2 children and also help them realise that sport and physical activity is  fun and enjoyable.  The clubs will cover the basic skills needed to participate in most sports, such as Balance, Co-ordination, Striking and movement.  Following on from these clubs which are held in individual schools, the participants will be offered places at a Multi Sports Academy held at the family Secondary School.  Here the participants will be offred sport specific coaching on a number of mainstream sports.  Aswell as aiming to improve the participants skills, the academies hopes to improve the transition from school club to sports club.

Cycling Development

Bradford  Cycle Fest  13th June Lister Park

Beginner and Improver Rides

Working alongside other partners such as the CTC and the Primary Care Trust, Active Coaching UK is helping to develop and promote cycling within the Bradford Area, not just as a sport or pastime, but also as a alternative means of transport. This development includes delivering activities such as Bike Ability and holiday schemes.  Other activities arranged are family and improver rides aimed at showing new riders where they can cycle and also helping to build confidence on the bike.  Alongside the delivery of sessions, the development includes opening up access to cycling by creating route maps in the local area and a bradford wide leaflet showing what is going on.  I am also helping to create a series of maps within each of the Bradford districts to give beginner riders an idea of where they can ride.

Athletics Development Group

Since it began in around 2004, Active Coaching UK has ben involved in the Bradford Development Group, and is now acting as Secretary.  The group made up of representatives from local clubs, schools and the local authority meets on a regular basis to put together ideas and schemes to promote and open access to Athletics within the Bradford district.  The activities and support this groups offers varies from funding of coaching courses to publicity of individual clubs.  In the near future the group will also be working towards creating development groups for indivdual disciplines. This group is supported in term by England Athletics.  At present this group is submitting an application to EA to become one of the first Athletics Networks in the country.  This will bring together all the clubs and organisations involved in Athletics to create a network where all athletes of all abilities will have access to training that will meet their every need

 Multi Sports Acadamies

To follow on from the multi skills clubs mentioned above, I am planning to run a year long project at each of the Secondary Schools within the Oakbank Partnership.  This project is aimed at creating a link between after school clubs and the local sports clubs.  Each month I will be working on a different sport of which one session will include a guest coach from one of the local clubs.  The guest coach will be able to work with potential new members and be a friendly face at the club should the children wish to join.
